1806 is the year that the word cocktail was first defined in print and also the name of a basement bar that is all about master mixologists, cocktail history, and experimenting with flavour.
Although cocktail only made the print in 1806, the idea of mixology was dabbled with as early as Shakespeare’s time and distillation, linked to alchemy, toyed with the idea of spirits being the ‘water of life’. 1806 has not only at least one drink from every decade since 1806 but also a collection of vintage cocktail shakers and equipment. The menu is a history lesson in itself.
